No Weapon!

Ok….put on your running shoes! Time to relieve some stress! One..Two..Three..Four..Now Breathe. Exercise is one of the most important parts of your life along with a healthy diet. When we are rushed to get things done this can be two of the things we neglect. Here are a couple of pointers for a healthy lifestyle:

· Eat a balance diet everyday (or at least try) that consists of foods from the four basic food groups.

· Take routine breaks.

· Keep a daily journal. I have found that writing down my thoughts help me to relieve stress. Also write down things that you have accomplished.

· Don’t procrastinate! I know we all do at times. But this can lead to the highest stress there is. When we wait till the last minute to do things we are in a major rush and sometimes can be on the edge!

  1. Procrastination is my middle name. After riding bicycles for over 20 years, I quit riding for 7 years, but for the past 2 years I have tried to start back riding for exercise. I have gained over 20 pounds since I quit exercising regularly, and I get stressed and uncomfortable when my pants just feel too tight. It is so easy to put off exercising and eating right. I know both are very good for you, but I keep saying to myself that I will start next week, or in the spring when the weather warms up and the sun sets later in the day. Winter time is very hard for me, and trying to finish homework does not help. I plan on riding regularly starting the week of March 22. This time I have an excuse because I am working 12 hour late night shifts at work until March 20.

  2. I am so ready for nice weather. I ran my first 1/2 marathon last fall and it was the best experience. I have never liked running, but training for my race became an obsession. I have gotten a bit of track with travel and weather, but am looking forward to getting back to running. It is amazing how much better I feel when I am running 3 to 4 times a week and logging 15 to 20 miles a week.
